From the desk of Dr. Stan

“Be fruitful and multiply (Gen. 1:22)…”Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32)

Being fruitful and multiplying in the Kingdom that the Lord has given us is a heart desire for most if not all of us. Our ministry of preparing leaders in the 21st century and taking the whole word to the whole world will be enhanced as we move into our (for us) new facilities…which is 90% done….praise the Lord!

Just got home from Australia (jet lagging a bit), which was wonderful…with Pastors Mike and Kelley Groom, Dr. Denis and Ros Plant, Pastor Shane Conlon, Dr. Ken and Alison Chant and Sharon Jones, and a special visit from Dr. Gail Stathis…Joan, Rebecca, Kaitlyn and I had a wonderful time “Down Under”.

As I stated in last month’s update, the past few months have been harvest time for Vision…new building, new opportunities. We continue to take care of what the Lord has entrusted to us, as we continue with our two pronged focus.

Vision International University

  • Preparing International leaders through degree granting programs, with a special emphasis on the nations of the world

Vision International Training and Education Network

  • With our Vision School of Ministry for local church training,Walk in Wisdom seminars, various equipping seminars and on line certificate course, counseling outreach, church planting and dynamic publishing…taking the whole word to the whole world.

We are in the final stages of moving into our new facilities (more below and look for the video next week) and preparing for our start of school launch. Here is what is up and coming for your prayerful consideration.

On the Agenda

Over the next few weeks we will be very busy…so please keep us in prayer. Here is a bit of a picture for you.

  • Conference September 12-14, Dayton, OH with Dr. Lee Stutzman, home for 3 days, then
  • Maryland for the Harvest Conference with Dr. Manon Gurley September 20-23, and then off to
  • South Africa for conferences with Dr. Robert Munion and Dr. Kobin Archary, September 24-October 9, with Michael Ales. After a few days home, back to
  • Maryland with Pastor Shawn Murphy at Calvary Chapel International Worship Center in Glen Burnie.

On the Home Front

In terms of the building, we have had to expand the stairs on the modular building, and all painting is done or soon will be and paid for. We will need tile in the bathrooms and kitchen, and we found some dry rot in the modular that must be taken care of, adding an additional $5,000 to our costs, and we are trusting the Lord to provide.

Dr. Joshua Reichard has completed a prototype of our new web page, and I anticipate a final version within a month. It is outstanding…and will move us forward and strengthen our ability to market our ministry more effective. Once that is completed, we can start our social media and other marketing campaign.

The staff vacation is over, and we will be fully operational after Labor day…pray for all the details to come together in its final format….thanks. Again, please keep an eye out for a video update…probably this Tuesday.

We are still in need of help to:

  • Finish the painting of the modular building
  • Tile the bathrooms and kitchen
  • Carpet for the offices (completed)
  • Upgrade the Electric for full functionality (completed)
  • Move our offices from my house, to include the phone system, internet, etc…no small task. (completed…yea!)
  • Get a new sign for the Vision International Center (in process)
  • Finish the ramp extension.

So, please keep us in prayer, and especially pray for a continued flow of generous givers to help us finish this phase…then we can concentrate on Accreditation! Praying for you to have a wonderful completion of summer and beginning of Fall (as hot as it has been, it cannot come too soon!

We pray for all our Gideon 300 members…and we are so grateful for generous givers like you. Please consider a gift to help us reach the world…your gifts help us fulfill the Vision of Vision…taking the whole word to the whole world, and Preparing leaders in the 21st Century. Again, thanks for your kindness, generosity and faithfulness.

Blessings.

From the desk of Dr. Stan

Summer means so much to folks…fun, sun, barbecues, vacation…and in fact, our hard-working staff at Vision are on vacation as you receive this Vision update…but the work of the Lord continues.

For example, our dear friends and ministry partners Dr. Harold and Linda Eberle are preparing for two trips to Pakistan, where we jointly have several bible schools, preparing leaders for the thousands of churches that will need to be planted due to the harvest of souls coming to Christ in this Muslim nation.

Summer fun, but not much rest. The work goes on, as open doors are made available.

We will be moving in to our new and expanded facilities in Ramona (San Diego) which will allow us to do even more work…Kingdom work…and most of the move will have to happen, you guessed it, during our holiday. Oh well, the Lord is moving, and we are doing all we can to move with him.

IN the near future we are off again to Australia, South Africa, and we are planning a trip to Brazil for next year…the world is hungry for education and training, and the materials we provide to equip the next generation of leaders. God is good…but really, I could use a vacation!

To follow is from my Walking Wisdom blog, that you can sign up for at www.drstandekoven.com  hope it is a blessing to you, also check out our article from Vision Publishing on, “How and Why YOU should write your own book.”  We have workshops we can bring to your location that will walk you through the process of writing your first book.  Many new authors come to the Vision Publishing workshops with little more than ideas and a dream, and go home with a topic, title, chapter outline, and a plan to finish their book.  If you know how to create content for sermons, bible studies, classes, etc. …… you can author a book and we can show you how.

Now for my article….  “A vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” A woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul. And when she and her household had been baptized, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay.”

And she prevailed upon us.” (Ac. 16: 9, 14-15

I have often said, blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be broken. Luke states in the few verses before this passage that Paul and his apostolic company had sought to go to different places to minister, only to be prevented by Holy Spirit. This no doubt frustrated Paul and his team, but what could he do? He was not about to go against the Spirit. After many attempts, he finally has a dream…a prophetic dream…an open door to Europe finally…and it was a man calling to him to come help.

Well, again, thank God Paul was not a typical fundamentalist…he would still be looking for a man to minister, instead of finding the woman God had prepared for him to come into covenant with. Paul must have understood, it is not the gender that makes the difference, but the grace God places on a person that matters most. Lydia was a graced and gracious woman, prepared by God for extraordinary feats in God to accomplish. Thank God that Paul, the purported sexist was open to the grace and not led by his prejudice.

Dispelling the Mystery

From Vision Publishing’s, “Dispelling the Mystery, How to Write Your Own Book,” workbook.

It is our pleasure to have this opportunity to share with you some vital information about book publishing and how to overcome procrastination in writing your book.  Some of the topics we will address are:

    • how to choose a topic
    • where to find content
    • how to organize your notes
    • how to outline your book
    • how to choose a title
    • time management
    • define self-publishing
    • E-publication
    • Creating your cover
    • The 411 on websites

We will give you:
The What — Creating a book.
The Why — Why should I publish my own book?
The How – Well, I will come to that in a few minutes.

You may or may not have considered writing a book of your own.  Perhaps you already have a book or two, if you do, congratulations! No matter which group you fall into, I suspect there is one thing we have in common, we have all been gifted with the ability to communicate.

Some may teach or preach the word on a regular basis.  We prepare sermons or biblical studies to help people grow in God’s word.  We know how to create content. How we deliver the content may differ from person to person.  Others may not teach or preach, but nevertheless you are a communicator.  You communicate with friends, family, church family, or Facebook audiences.  We all communicate in one form or another and we all have a message to share with the world.

Has your Memory Ever Failed you?

We have all heard a good sermon or attended a fabulous bible study, watched a dynamic play or movie, then shared with friends how great it was.  When those same friends ask what it was about, often we have trouble recalling what we heard.  Wait a whole week and you may have forgotten all of it.  This is the reason books are so important, they help us remember what our memory does not.

Now the task of writing a book may seem daunting, and you may say, I am not a good writer.  Let me tell you a secret… not all authors are good writers. That is why we have ghost writers, editors, proof readers, etc.  Even if you are a good writer, the task of writing a whole book may seem overwhelming.  It does not need to be, that is why Vision Publishing was created, to help communicators get their content into print.

To tell you the truth, if you can create the content for a sermon or bible study, or make up a story, you can author a book.  It does not even have to be written down, it can be an audio or video recording.

Dr. Stan has created books from his sermons on several occasions.  Books such as “Transformation—the Process of Change”.  The content came from a series he preached in Fontana.  In fact, a book can be created from one good meaty sermon or one good story.

Just to prove this fact, I (Kathy) spoke in Ohio in June of 2016.  I returned to CA and took the points of the sermon and expanded each with additional content that I did not have the time to share on a Sunday morning.  By July, Vision had published the book, Wisdom Speaks, Hearing Her Voice in a Noisy World.  It took approximately 30 days to create this small book.

Also, in July 2016, I was honored to teach a workshop on “How to Develop Your Own Pastoral Care Team.”  I had already created the content for other seminars I had taught, so I simply organized the teaching notes to create a book.  This too took approximately 30 days.

If you can create a sermon or bible lesson, if you have a story or personal experience you want to share, you can author a book.

Habakkuk 2:2 Then the Lord answered me and said, “Record the vision and inscribe it on tablets, that the one who reads it may run.

Why write a book?  We have all been commissioned to go into all the world with God’s word.  While you may not be prepared to go to China, Italy, or Brazil with the Word, the revelation, the teaching God has placed in your heart…. your book can go places that you cannot.  You can more effectively impart the wisdom God has entrusted to you if you will commit it to paper.

Dr. Stan is a prime example, he goes to other nations to minister and teach the word; but he can make a longer lasting impact because he has a timeless legacy he can leave behind, his books.

Long after he has returned home, they still have his books and curriculum to review, study, and ultimately put into practice.  Others can continue to share the word God gave Dr. Stan and spread it throughout the land, because he took time to write the vision and to publish it.

If that one reason is not enough, let me offer you one other….

A book is today’s business card.  It opens doors of opportunity. It establishes you as an authority giving credibility to your work.  It is one thing to say you can teach on a subject, but as many will tell you, talk is cheap.  If you have written a book on the subject, people will sit up and take notice.  Your book is your business card and it will open doors of opportunity for you to share and expand your sphere of influence.  If you want to enlarge your tent and expand your territory (or your sphere of influence) then try writing a book.

From the desk of Dr. Stan DeKoven June 2018

Dear Friend of Vision;

I just returned from a delightful and blessed time on the East Coast, first in Laurel MD with Dr. Manon Gurley and The Tabernacle Church, where I preached and taught a seminar on the topic of Discipleship, utilizing my book 40 Days to the Promise. From there I was honored to preach the mid-week service at Eagle’s Nest Church in Milton, Delaware, while being hosted by Tom and Elaine Gambuti, friends from Jersey. I preached on Keys to Success from the Life of Ezra, from Ezra 7:10, which turned out to be Vision alumni Pastor Dr. Bob Weed’s life theme scripture…a Holy Spirit coincidence. Finally, I was blessed to be with Drs. Akin and Kemi Bankole and team for a seminar on Church Leadership (again based upon my book), preached and conducted a small but wonderful graduation in Trenton, NJ. It is always an honor to preach and teach the word, my primary callings, and was so blessed by my friends with hospitality and generosity. God is Good.

On The Home Front

As most of you know, we have purchased our new headquarters in Ramona. It is a former Church of Christ church building, just under 5,000 sq. ft, with a sanctuary to seat 120+, Fellowship hall for 60 or so, 4 classrooms, one primary office (probably mine), kitchen, storage and two bathrooms. The cost of purchase was $750,000, a good deal, and due to generous givers like many of you we were able to raise the $150,000 for the down payment, another $7,000 for the moving of a nearly 1000 sq. ft modular building for our offices (which is now on the property) and additional monies for painting, etc.

As mentioned above, we are intending to start a Vision School of Ministry for Ramona, on Wednesday nights, have at least one or two recovery group meetings, and already have a community theater group wanting to use the sanctuary…for a small fee…but every little bit helps.

We are still in need of help for:

  • Finish the painting of the modular building
  • Paint the fellowship hall floor
  • Carpet for the offices
  • Upgrade the Electric for full functionality
  • Move our offices from my house, to include the phone system, internet, etc.…no small task.
  • Get a new sign for the Vision International Center
  • Possibly upgrading the air-conditioning in the modular building

So, please keep us in prayer, and especially pray for a continued flow of generous givers to help us finish this phase…then we can concentrate on accreditation!

We pray for all our Gideon 300 members…and we are so grateful for generous givers like you. Any gift helps us to fulfill the Vision of Vision…taking the whole word to the whole world, and Preparing leaders in the 21st Century. Again, thanks for your kindness, generosity and faithfulness. Blessings.

 Dr Stan
