For the Sake of the Kingdom of God: A Christian and Life Coaching Approach to Pointing Others to Christ
Our Christian faith tells us we are children of the One and Only Living God. Anything that happens in our lives happens for our good. We abide under God’s Divine Providence. That is, He is guiding us. He is providing for us. God is sustaining us. He will make a way for us to live move and have our being in Him.
The Bible tells us a little leaven leavens the whole loaf. Let us be aware of what influences our behavior. Let us also be aware of who enables anything and all things in our lives. Let us not forget who makes all things possible. Let us not give credit to anyone other than God alone, who has gifted us with talent and ability to process life’s events. He has left us with His Holy Spirit to guide, comfort, and teach us all things. God wills or God allows stuff to happen in our lives.
We are not privy to which, but we can rest assure, God is in control. We are reminded in Hebrews 4:11, Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. We know God can and will do what He will to do. Anything and every thing we need come from God. He can heal our bodies. He can fix broken hearts. He can mend hurting relationships. He can make a way for us to get the job or career we desire. He can get us unstuck. He can fulfill our desires and our dreams. One might surmise pastors, spiritual leaders, and those in a close relationship with God would have a deeper level of understanding of where their help comes from.
These leaders have the efficacy to tap into the Spirit of God to obtain all they need. The quickest, simplest, and I would venture to say the easiest way to overcome any challenge, get unstuck, and be fulfilled is to submit our will to God. Feed the spirit and everything else in our lives will line up accordingly. But as we all know, overcoming is not quite that easy. So we seek other means, modalities, tools, therapist, counselors, and coaches so we might live the life God is calling us to live.
The subject of coaching is merely a way to deal with our human nature. We are body, soul, and spirit. The body being the lowest form is subject to illness and deterioration. The governing being –the soul has been wounded and behaves based on its “soul” nature. The spirit can only remain in tact when connected to and subjected to God’s Spirit. When we are sick in our body, we go to a physician. When we are longing in our spirit, we yield to the Holy Spirit who in turn directs us to God through prayer, reading the Word, and worship. When our soul is in ailment, we seek a variety of sources based on our patterns of belief, habitual ways, and based on whatever or whomever we think will help us, including life coaches.
As pastors, ministers, and leaders devoted to discipling others to live in a Christ-like manner toward a lifestyle of Christian disciplines, our commitment is to win souls. Therefore, coaching is a way to help us deal with our souls – our human nature in order that, our body submits to our soul, our soul submit to our spirit, and our spirit submit to the Holy Spirit of the One and Only Living God. All of this, that we may be living vessels, for the sake of the Kingdom of God.
