Description
A new generation is merging with a desire to return to authentic NT patterns of Christianity, centered on the teachings of Christ, the Apostles doctrine, prophetic vision, and proclamation. The Lord is setting his house in order. The order of the house; the materials to build with, the plans and purposes of God can be found in the written revelation of Christ. Paul stated the church is to be founded on the Apostles and Prophets (Eph. 2:20), Christ himself being the corner of the building.
- The Apostle – Many debate the legitimacy of modern-day apostolic ministry. The viewpoint of this book is that this gift is active and essential for the next (final) move of God.
- The Prophet – Further and equally foundational in building God’s Kingdom, speaks primarily of the OT prophets and prophecy now fulfilled in Christ, and confirmed both trans-local and local through the ministry of the prophet. The prophet in proper office is to speak the mind of Christ, the vision for the house into the local corporate body of believers.
Most churches in the 21st century have been built on pastoral ministry or by teachers and evangelists in the office of a pastor. Pastoral ministry, as with all 5-fold gifts to the church are vital for spiritual maturity (Ephesians 4:11-16). However, foundations are to be built by the gifts fundamental to the process—the Apostle and Prophet.
